geektorrent goes live

The site has finally gone live!

geektorrent is tracker/indexer for bittorrent files in any way related to "geeks". This is a rather broad term so if you consider your content "geeky" in any way, it is most likely OK. Feel free to upload programming screencasts, science documentaries, physics papers or why not some gaming speed runs.

This is a public tracker, meaning that anyone can download anything without worrying about ratio or similar systems. User download/upload-ratio is however available for registered users, but it can only be seen by the user itself and does not affect your status on the site. Uploading of torrents does however require registration on the site.

geektorrent tries to keep it's content "as legal as possible". That basically means that this is NOT the place to spread new releases of movies or software, but rather a place for distribution of content that will not hurt the copyright owners economically.

Old documentaries and so on is generally considered ok, and the basic rule for uploading is "Don't upload it if you believe that the owner would not like his content available here". Try to be polite and cite the source of your content if available.

This is also a "proof of concept" of a bittorrent tracker/indexer written in pure django, instead of the "normal" approach of using TBSource.

I aim to open source most of, if not all of geektorrent as a general purpose bittorrent-tracker django application as soon I've made sure that my code is up to standards and written proper documentation. This information is of course probably not really all that interesting for most of the visitors, but some of you might be interested.

Hopefully there is interest in a place for gathering this kind of content, and you are most welcome to leave feedback and requests for improvement in the forum.
